1st Lenzie Girls’ Brigade

We have had a great start to the new session at 1st Lenzie GB with our theme of art and nature. The girls are creating nature journals and there are prizes each week for the best artwork.

We started the session by planting cress seed ‘heads’ and learning about the things a plant needs to grow. We also painted ladybird pebbles and discovered the ladybird life cycle.

Kim is taking us through a ‘Faith in Nature’ programme this session and led us in a faith lesson on the parable of the mustard seed.

Jennifer shared her story of her West Highland Way hike, the resilience she needed to complete it, and the robins she met every day. We drew some robins and other garden birds in our journals.

We discussed minibeasts and their habitats, looked at crickets and mealworms, and put up our ‘bug hotel’ in the church garden. We are checking each week to see if there are any occupants!

Fiona and Liz came to share an evening with us to discuss Fairtrade and why it is so important for cocoa farmers around the world. To see what unfairness feels like, we played games with some not-so-fair rules … and then enjoyed a Fairtrade chocolate fountain!

We also have a trip to Glasgow Kelvingrove Art Galleries coming up soon as well as our enrolment church service and parade.
