Joint Congregational Update
7th June 2026
Dear Friends
Union of Lenzie Old and Lenzie Union Parish Churches
A congregational vote was held in both churches on Sunday 10th May, and the results have been made known. Though a number of people voted against the proposed Basis of Union a negative vote should not be taken as a vote against the union, but instead an opportunity for the congregations to share their feelings on the process with Presbytery. These results are now with the Presbytery Mission Plan Implementation Group and will be reported to the June Presbytery meeting when it is expected that Presbytery will instruct that a Service of Union takes place on
Thursday 25th June at 7.00pm in the sanctuary designated for the new church in Lenzie
From that date we will be a new congregation - Lenzie Church of Scotland.
A union presents us with many positive opportunities, though it is also an emotional time and we must all remain sensitive to the feelings of others. What we say and do, even with the best of intentions, can cause upset and hurt. Both our individual churches, as we have known them to be, will cease. We welcome each other as a new congregation, with equal responsibility for the future.
You will appreciate the huge number of things that need to be addressed in order to bring 2 congregations together, and this will all take many months. Over the summer we will worship together and continue to get to know each other. We will prioritise the practical tasks that need to be done – you may see a change in signage, or some housekeeping as both congregations decide on what needs to be kept for the future!
Our initial Sunday services will reflect some aspects of worship familiar to Lenzie Old and also some familiar to Lenzie Union. This too will change as we go through an interim period.
Many decisions will fall to the Kirk Session of the new church, and the first business meeting is planned for mid-August.
We can look forward to something new and exciting, for ourselves and for Lenzie, supporting and encouraging each other on the way and knowing that God is with us on the journey. Let’s give Him the Glory!
